COVID-19: TN posts 5,659 new cases and 5,610 recoveries

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Wednesday logged 5,659 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 67 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 5,97,602 and the State toll to 9,520, according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also witnessed 5,610 patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.

As of September30, cumulatively 5,97,602 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which include 9,520 deaths and 5,41,819 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.

Of the new cases reported today, State Capital Chennai reported 1,294. The metro is back to 1,000 plus cases for days in a row now.

Among the districts where a higher number of cases were reported, Coimbatore accounted for 574, Salem 378, Chengalpattu 335, Thiruvallur 275, Thanjavur 266 and Kancheepuram 207.

Tirupur logged a single-day spike of 137 cases and the Nilgiris 80.

According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 46,263.

A total of 73,54,050 samples have been tested till date of which 86,928 were tested over the last 24 hours alone.
