Coimbatore: Dravidar Panpattu Kootiyakkam demanded suspension of Cultural Review Committee.

A press conference on behalf of the Dravidar Panpattu Kootiyakkam was held at the Coimbatore Press Club. Speaking on the occasion, members of the Dravidar Panpattu Kootiyakkam said that the Central Government should immediately disband the Cultural Review Committee and that they would indulge in a protest at theBSNL office nearby Coimbatore District Collector's Office tomorrow.

They also said that the BJP government has set up a 16-member expert panel to study Indian culture. They said the group was mostly made up of Brahmins and did not include people from the southern states, including Tamil Nadu, as well as members of the tribal and Dalit communities. They accused that this was an attempt to promote the ideology of the RSS as Indian culture and hence it is very dangerous and against Indian sovereignty.

They said as astrology and Indian epics are touted as sciences, it would pose a major obstacle to the scientific development of India in the future. They hence demanded to suspend the committee immediately and warned that they will besiege the BSNL office tomorrow to urge this. Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, SDPI and 18 other parties including the Tamil Puligal are also expected to participate in the protest.
