Coimbatore: Pollachi Constituency MP Shanmugasundaram in a letter dated September 23, 2020 has requested the Southern railways to restore the Chennai- Palakkad- Chennai express (22651/22652) which was in operation before the onset of COVID 19 pandemic.
Coimbatore: Pollachi Constituency MP Shanmugasundaram in a letter dated September 23, 2020 has requested the Southern railways to restore the Chennai- Palakkad- Chennai express (22651/22652) which was in operation before the onset of COVID 19 pandemic.
In his letter, the DMK MP has highlighted that the Chennai- Palakkad- Chennai express was the only direct train connecting Pollachi, Palani regions with Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu. With only limited buses plying to Chennai from Pollachi, Palani regions, the stoppage of the train has resulted in overcrowding in buses, thus defying the social distancing norms.
Considering the spread of the novel Coronavirus, the MP was placed his request to John Thomas, General Manager of Southern railways, to operate Chennai- Palakkad- Chennai express (22651/22652) up to Pollachi and back till the pandemic condition recedes and normal operation of interstate trains resume.
