It later reachees Vellakinar via the Rajavaikal. Farming was done during the 1990s with the help of the lake which had a surface area of 6.75 acres then, but it has an acreage of just 4 now says Arul Krishnan, coordinator of the Vellakinar Neer Matrum Pasumai Iyakkam. He says this has happened due to urbanization and occupation of space. Due to changes in the waterways, the water supply to the pond has come to a complete standstill since 1993.

Due to the negligence of the people, the bushes in the puddles and waterways have become a dumping ground for garbage.

He said, "In early August 2019, we started this organization with the help of Kowsika Nathi Neer Amaippu and volunteers who wanted to rehabilitate Chinnavedampatti Lake. We carried out maintenance work in three phases. We are carrying out work such as cleaning the drain, increasing the depth of the pond and repairing the waterways."

He added that the soil taken from the pond is not thrown away but instead used to strengthen the shores. By raising awareness amid the public in the area, they recruit volunteers to participate in the field work. They have managed to collect funds around 13 lakhs and fifty thousand. The work that was stopped due to the lockdown has resumed now. He said water has raised for about 2 feet with the water flowing through agricultural lands due to the rains.

He further said "Our first demand is to rehabilitate streams and waterways to increase the size of the pond. Setting up a wastewater treatment plant would raise the groundwater level."
