Tirupur:The Tirupur Producers Association demanded an apology from Director Bharathiraja for calling producers 'weaklings', failing which they warned of protests.

On September 14, a new producers association was inaugurated under the leadership of Director Bharathiraja, in Chennai. During the inauguration, Director Bharathiraja made a statement denoting that the 100 producers with him are strongand the rest are 'weaklings'.

This controversial statement made by him was condemned by producers and as part of this, the Tamilnadu Movie Producers Association's 'Namakku Naame' team met the press in Tirupur.

During the press meet the producers said, "Bharathiraja must apologise for the statement he made calling producers 'weaklings'. Further, posting something as an explanation for his speech on Twitter, he has called us submissive, oppressed and inactive. He has also said that his speech was made in anger on seeing the plight of such producers and has further degraded us. Hence Bharathiraja must apologise immediately.Otherwise, we will stage a protest in front of his house.

He has also accused the association as being biased and not beneficial to the producers. He further said that it was the decision of the producers to release the movies on OTT."
