Tirupur: Public submitted a petition to the Tirupur District Collector alleging a scam in the provision of private drinking water connection in Perumanallur Panchayat.
Domestic drinking water connections have been provided for the last four months in Perumanallur panchayat in Tirupur district.
It is alleged that the chairman and deputy chairman of the Perumanallur panchayat have used their power to give connections to about 150 houses without the approval of the district collector.
They collected Rs. 6,200 and provided receipt on behalf of the panchayat for only Rs. 2,200 and said the remaining Rs. 4,000 would be paid at district collector's office. It has come to light that 6 lakh rupees has been collected so far.
The people of the area have filed a petition with the District Collector's Office alleging that the chairman and vice-chairman have misused their power and have not handed over the people's contributions to the government. They also demanded that appropriate action be taken against the accused.
