The garbage in this dump yard continues to emit foul odour. Approval to treat the waste in the Bio- mining process was approved to be undertaken at a cost of Rs.60.16 crores. The Minister for Municipal Administration S.P.Velumani inaugurated the project and the tender for the project was granted to a private agency to undertake.

Prior to the beginning of the project an expert team from Chennai Anna University was called to review the wastes that were dumped at the Vellalore garbage dumpyard. The expert team was to look into the quantity of wastes that came to the dumpyard and to identify the bio degradable and non-biodegradable wastes. They would then provide a report stating which was suitable for bio-mining. It was said that based on this report the bio-mining machine would be set up. However, due to the lockdown the arrival of the expert committee was delayed and even after the relaxations in the lockdown the expert committee has not arrived.

Speaking about this, a Corporation Official said, "The expert committee has not arrived yet. Their arrival is expected. Only after their visit the bio-mining process will come into use."
