Elephants demolish midday meal centre in Valparai

Coimbatore: A herd of 16 wild elephants ravaged the midday meal centre at a middle school in Valparai.


Coimbatore: A herd of 16 wild elephants ravaged the midday meal centre at a middle school in Valparai.

The government aided middle school in the Karumalai Estate area near Valparai is a very old school and is surrounded by overgrown weeds that give it a dense forest like appearance.

The midday meal centre at the school was attacked by 16 wild elephants at around 2 AM today. They broke the room and damaged the utensils and rice and pulses kept there. The midday meal workers who arrived in the morning notified the Forest Department and the estate administration. The officials arrived immediately and took a note of the destruction.





Further, the Forest Department visited the site and drove the wild elephants that were camped nearby into the forests.

The presence of a herd of 16 wild elephants in the area has caused fear amid the public in the area.
