Tirupur: Non-political Farmers' Association petitioned for changing market business hours from night to day in Tirupur.

The Thennampalayam daily market on Palladam Road in Tirupur was ordered shut during the days and instead allowed to function in the night following various restrictions imposed since last March due to the lockdown announced to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the government has announced relaxations for hosiery companies and businesses are operating full time, but thennampalayam daily market has not been given any relaxations yet. Farmers allege that they do not get to sell all the produce that they bring in the nighttime due to lesser patronage from the customers. This causes stagnation of produce and losses to the farmers. Therefore, the Non-Political Farmers' Association submitted a petition to change the timings of the daily market to daytime or they warned a protest will be conducted gathering all the farmers.
