Coimbatore: Political parties in Pollachi submit joint petition for Kallar Settlement tribals

Coimbatore: Political parties in Pollachi submitted joint petition for Kallar Settlement tribals.

Dhanasekaran, the district organizer and lawyer led the parties when submitting the petition that insists on the welfare of the Kallar tribals.

The tribals were living in a temporary residential area near the Teppakulamedu, where a landslide occurred due to heavy rains in 2017. They were then temporarily moved to vacant dwellings near Valparai after the new huts they had erected inside the forest were removed by the Forest Department with the help of the police.

The authorities have been delaying in providing patta to them even after several efforts. They have ethnic practices such as women staying alone for 3 days and not meeting men for 15 days in a month. Temporary living arrangements hinder such cultural practices. Hence, the all-party petition demanded permission to build 7 separate huts for women.

Protests that were planned earlier have been called off following the announcement by the authorities that they will provide a positive solution to the petition by 24th of this month. Muslim Munnetra kazhagam, Viduthalai Siruthaigal, MDMK and Communist Parties joined hands to submit the petiotion to Valparai Tashildar Rajan.
