Forest department have arrested five and seized airguns for poaching wild goats at Muttinadu Reserve Forest in the Kundah Forest Range near Ooty in the Nilgiris district.
More than 55% of The Nilgiris district is covered with forests that are home to a variety of wildlife including tigers, leopards, elephants and Indian gaurs.
The forest department upon receiving information that some people were hunting in the forest area at Muttinadu conducted a search operation. Ramayya, Jebakumar, John Armstrong from Thoothukudi district and Manikandan and Sulaiman from Nilgiris district were arrested and Barking deer meat, malabar squirrel skin and air guns were confiscated from them.
A case has been registered and investigations are underway.
