Coimbatore: Transport officials said that 221 government buses were operated in Coimbatore yesterday and a revenue of Rs. 19 lakh was collected.

The TN government gave a go-ahead to public transport from September 1, but as COVID-19 is raging in Coimbatore, only a very few use the buses. Hence, only a limited number of private and government buses are operated in the city. The government has instructed that disinfectants should be sprayed from time to time in government and private buses and sanitizers should be provided to the passengers.

Transport officials said, "Buses get crowds only in the mornings and evenings. Despite the huge loss of revenue to the state, we are increasing the number of buses in accordance with the number of passengers. Only Rs 19 lakh was collected yesterday."
