Personnel at Pollachi GH fail to offer timely treatment to boy who swallows coin

Coimbatore: The parents of a boy who swallowed a five rupee coin were left in the lurch as the Pollachi Government hospital employees failed to provide treatment for two hours.

Coimbatore: The parents of a boy who swallowed a five rupee coin were left in the lurch as the Pollachi Government hospital employees failed to provide treatment for two hours.

Gokulakrishnan (6), S/o Selvaraj of the Periyapodhu village near Pollachi was playing when he accidentally swallowed a five rupee coin. Following this, he developedstomach ache and was rushed to the Periyapodhu Primary Health Center immediately. He was not provided with any treatment there and was asked to be taken to the Pollachi Government hospital for higher treatment.



Following this, theboy was taken to the Pollachi Government Hospital. To the bafflement of the parents, the boy was not offered any treatment there too for close to two hours.



They also asked the parents to give the boy some water to drink and said that he would feel better after that and sent them back without offering any treatment.

Getting wind of this, social activists contacted the Pollachi Sub-Collector Vaithiyanathan and complained that not even first aid was offered to the boy. Consequently, the Sub-Collectorcontacted the Superintendent of the hospital and ordered him to offer treatment to the boy following which the boy was treated.

Social activists request that patients coming into the hospital for emergency treatment must be treated immediately and action regarding this must be taken.
