Thundershowers lash parts of city, brings respite from sweltering heat

Coimbatore: Fairly widespread rains with scattered heavy to very heavy falls with pronounced thunders pelted many parts of the district of Coimbatore for more than an hour.



Coimbatore: Fairly widespread rains with scattered heavy to very heavy falls with pronounced thunders pelted many parts of the district of Coimbatore for more than an hour.

Earlier, The Regional Meteorological Centre at Chennai predicted heavy rains in the districts around the Western Ghats due to an atmospheric circulation combined with a heat wave. The forecast came true as thunderstorms raged in various parts of the district last night.

Many parts of the district experienced overcast conditions in the earlier part of the afternoon. Clouds started gathering around 5 PM and it started raining.

Parts of the city including Idayarpalayam, Kovil Medu, Saibaba Colony, Ukkadam, Ramanathapuram, Singanallur, North Coimbatore, Gandhipuram and Sivananda Colony experienced heavy rains accompanied by thunder for more than an hour.

Suburban areas such as Kovai Pudur, Madukkarai, Thirumalayampalayam, Ettimadai, Navakkarai, Podanur, and Sulur witnessed heavy showers too.

The rains have brought about a cool and breezy weather causing joy to the Coimbatoreans.
