No flights scheduled for Coimbatore Airport in latest Vande Bharath Mission schedule; passengers upset

Not even one flight scheduled for Coimbatore Airport under "Vande Bharath Mission, Air India Express, Repatriation schedule Phase 6" make passengers upset.

Coimbatore:

Despite Coimbatore airport showing tremendous potential, not a single flight has been scheduled under "Air India Express Vande Bharat mission Phase 6". International passengers who depended on these flights to return to Coimbatore have been inconvenienced greatly.

Coimbatore International Airport serves the aviation needs of surrounding 7 districts districts. Before 'covid-19' virus outbreak, anaverage of 3 million passengers use Coimbatore airport yearly and 10,000 tons of cargo is handled in domestic sector and more than 3,500 tons of cargo are handled in international sector.

At present International flight services are suspended and only repatriation flight services under Vande Bharat mission by Air India Express and various other foreign Airlines are permitted.

As per the data given by Airport Authority of India, "Under Vande Bharath Mission" so far 14.7 lakh people's have been facilitated in the international travel.

While comparing with the other airports in Tamilnadu and Kerala, the number of repatriation flights operated at Coimbatore International Airport was very less.

In this situation, the Official schedule given by "Air India Express, under Vande Bharat mission Phase 6" (September 1 till September 30) has given a big shock to all the international passengers since no flight has been scheduled for direct entry to Coimbatore.

As per the repatriation schedule many flights are operated to India from various foreign countries such as Dubai, Sharjah, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Bahrain, Kuala limo Kuwait, Riyadh etc.

In return, flights are operated from various airports in India such as Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Cochin, Trichy, Madurai and others. But In this schedule Coimbatore international airport has been removed as from the list of destinations. This has upset international passengers from Coimbatore.

Airport sources said, "As far as the Repatriation services by Air India is concerned, the decision is taken at Delhi. Previously during Vande Bharat Mission phase 5 also not much of importance was given to Coimbatore international airport. Only foreign airlines such as Air Arabia operated some flights to Coimbatore. Those flights in return also went fully loaded with passengers and cargo which is noteworthy.”

Kongu Global Forum(KGF) Director, D. Nandha Kumar said, "Coimbatore International Airport is one of the fastest growing both in passengers movements and cargo handling. Ministry of Civil Aviation should ensure Coimbatore airport is also given equal importance under Vande Bharat Mission Repatriation services by Air India Express like other airports in Tamilnadu and Kerala."
