Forest Department saves bear that fell into a water tank in tea estate
The Nilgiris: The Forest Department saved a bear that fell into a water tank of 13 feet depth in a tea estate in Ooty. The Nilgiris is covered with about 55 percent forest. The forest is home to a variety of wildlife including elephant, tiger, bear, leopard, deer and wild gaur.
The number of bears roaming in Kotagiri, Coonoor and Ooty in search of food has increased in the past few days. Yesterday, a bear fell into a 13-foot water tank in a tea estate in Doddabetta peak in Ooty. The public who heard the bear screaming immediately informed the forest department.
Forest department officials rushed to the area and rescued the bear after about an hour of struggle with the help of firefighters. The bear ran into the woods immediately after it was brought out.
