Forest department personnel were involved in their regular patrol at the Anaikatti Central Field of the Thudiyalur Division of the Coimbatore Forest range when they spotted the carcass of a female wild elephant in the patta land 100 meters from the borders of the Anaikatti Reserve forest near the Thumanur Tribal settlement. This place is located within the Coimbatore Forest range near the Kerala border.

Following this, information regarding the dead elephant was conveyed to the Forest Veterinary officer and Deputy Forest Conservator. The authorities visited the spot to conduct an autopsy on the deceased animal. The Vadavalli Veterinary Hospital veterinarian Dr. Prabhu accompanied them to assist with the autopsy.

Speaking about this, the Forest Department officials said, "The autopsy revealed that the approximate age of the elephant was 60. The elephant had lost 50 % of its molars.
