Kavundampalayam flyover work: Plan to allow only two-wheelers

Coimbatore: In a bid to complete the flyover in Kavundampalayam - Mettupalayam Road, the National Highways Department has planned to allow only two-wheelers to travel from the Kavundampalayam housing unit to Thudiyalur to ease traffic congestion in the area.

Construction is underway to construct a flyover with 29 pillars and a length of about one thousand meters from the housing unit to the Ramasamy Kalyana Mandapam at the Kavundampalayam junction on Coimbatore- Mettupalayam Road. Construction of a 670 meter long flyover with about 15 pillars at the GN Mills junction is also underway. The work on the project began in March last year.

The flyover work has been causing traffic jams on the Coimbatore Mettupalayam road from morning till evening everyday. The traffic has also affected the completion of the flyover. hence the National Highways Department has advised to divert the traffic to complete the construction quickly.

A National Highways Department official said, “The Kavundampalayam flyover construction is being done amidst heavy traffic. Hence a change of traffic is necessary to complete the construction quickly. Based on that, we plan to allow only two-wheelers to pass through. The date from when it will be implemented will be announced soon.”
