COVID-19: Coimbatore Merchant Associations decide to close shops for a week in Cross Cut Road

In a thoughtful move, the Coimbatore Merchant Associations have announced to close down shops in Cross Cut Road for a week, to control the spread of COVID-19.

Following a surge in Covid cases in Coimbatore district, the district administration has geared up preventive measures on war footing. With the total case tally crossed over 14,000, strict directives have been passed to all traders and organisations to conduct business in accordance with Covid-19 norms and not to allow any employee or customer inside the premises with Covid-19 symptoms.

Meanwhile, several Covid-19 positive cases at multiple shops across Cross Cut road, the city's buzzing shopping hub were reported, last week. Following which, a majority of shops were asked to pull down their shutters, while many closed, voluntarily.

Extending their support to the district administration, the Coimbatore Cross Cut Road Merchant Associations have voluntarily informed their decision to close down shops for a week from 7 PM of August 29 to 10 AM on September 7.

According to the association, the decision was taken in the interest of staff and customers, as coronavirus infections have been reported at multiple shops in the area.

Requesting the public to co-operate with the decision, the association informed that more than 350 shops and offices including small and large businesses in Cross Cut road will remain closed in the aforesaid period.
