81-year-old man near Pollachi sets wife on fire over money dispute

Coimbatore: Velusamy (81) hails from Ramanamudalipudur near Pollachi. He lives with Kaliammal (55), his wife of 40 years. The couple has a son and a daughter.

Coimbatore: Velusamy (81) hails from Ramanamudalipudur near Pollachi. He lives with Kaliammal (55), his wife of 40 years. The couple has a son and a daughter.

It is said that money that was acquired through the sale of Velusamy's land is in possession of Kaliammal and she and Velusamy have been fighting often whenever he demanded money from her.

Under the circumstances, it is alleged that Velusamy doused Kaliammal with kerosene late night of August 28 and set her on fire. On hearing her scream, people in the locality alerted the Kottur Police who rushed to the spot and rescued Kaliammal and sent her to Pollachi GH for treatment.

Meanwhile, Police have registered a case against Velusamy and are in the process of imprisoning him.
