Coimbatore: In a bid to combat the spread of novel Coronavirus which has affected more than 13,398 people in Coimbatore district, as of Thursday, the Minister for Municipal Administration S.P. Velumani has shared a social media post urging traders and organisations to subject their employees to COVID-19 testing once in 15 days, without fail.

The City Corporation on Wednesday, issued an order making it mandatory for all organisations to conduct mandatory Covid testing for their employees once in 10 days, atleast. The announcement was strongly condemned by the traders, who opine that the process is 'impractical' and 'expensive'.

As a measure to control the spread of COVID-19 in its initial stages, all employees of commercial complexes, factories, workshops and hotels have been ordered to be tested for COVID-19, once in 15 days, the order mandated.

Commenting on the issue, Minister SP Velumani has proposed to the organisations to carry out atleast Poll testing instead of PCR testing which is supposedly expensive.

"Even if individual testing is not possible, 'pool testing' which involves a sample of 10 people for every 100 people, must be conducted and the guidelines issued by the government must be followed completely", the Minister saidin his statement.
