State Human Rights Commission sends notice to Coimbatore City Police Commissioner for attack on 13-year-old boy

Coimbatore: The case of a 13-year-old boy being attacked by a police constable for being out on the streets during the Sunday lockdown caused a sensation on social media. The Human Rights Commission has sent a notice to the Coimbatore Police Commissioner regarding this issue.

Coimbatore: The case of a 13-year-old boy being attacked by a police constable for being out on the streets during the Sunday lockdown caused a sensation on social media. The Human Rights Commission has sent a notice to the Coimbatore Police Commissioner regarding this issue.

During the Sunday lockdown, a 13-year-old boy was out on the streets near Ondipudur. The Singanallur Police Station constable Durgaraj who spotted him, attacked him with a baton. Due to this, the boy was injured in his leg. However, no complaints were filed from the boy's side.

Videos and photos of the boy being attacked however, made rounds on social media. Following this, under the orders of the City Police Commissioner, constable Durgaraj was transferred to the Control room.

The State Human Rights Commissioner, took this case for enquiry on the basis of the news that was published in newspapers.

A notice has been sent to the City Police Commissioner in this regard. The Commission has demanded an explanation for the action taken by the Police department within three weeks in connection with this case.
