Casteist slurs against Dalit Panchayat President: Periyarist associations in Coimbatore agitate demanding arrest of man

Coimbatore: The Panchayat President of J. Krishnapuram was allegedly abused with casteist slurs. The Periyarist Associations staged agitations in front of the Coimbatore South Taluk office demanding the arrest of the person who used caste slurs against her.








Coimbatore: The Panchayat President of J. Krishnapuram was allegedly abused with casteist slurs. The Periyarist Associations staged agitations in front of the Coimbatore South Taluk office demanding the arrest of the person who used caste slurs against her.

The J Krishnapuram Panchayat President Saritha of the Sultanpet Panchayat Union belongs to the scheduled community. Balasubramaniam of the same area allegedly insulted her with casteist slurs.

Following this Saritha filed a complaint and stated that she was also prevented from sitting on the chair of the Panchayat President and was also prevented from putting up her name on the notice board on the border of the village.

The Negamam police filed a case on Balasubramaniam under the Prevention of Atrocities Act against SC/STs.



Meanwhile the Periyarist Associations staged agitations in front of the Coimbatore South Taluk office demanding the arrest of Balasubramaniam who insulted Saritha based on her caste.



They also alleged that Balasubramaniam was a member of the AIADMK and that the police were delaying his arrest due to this. Further, they requested for armed police protection for Saritha.
