A case had been filed at the Dharapuram police station against Kuppusamy, a member of the sixth ward of the Panchayat, for using caste slurs against Selvi, the Panchayat President of Kavundachipudur when she was on duty at the Panchayat office. She had filed the complaint along with her husband Ramesh.

However, the police did not register the complaint, following which a complaint was filed with the Superintendent of police. Following this the Dharapuram police registered the complaint.

The Desiya Samooga Needhi Peravai alleged that in spite of registering the complaint no investigation was undertaken and no action was taken against Kuppusamy. Hence they requested for quick action in the case and to change the investigating officer. They filed a petition with the Tirupur District Collector.

It was also alleged in the petition that three people from Dharapuram- Gopalakrishnan, Kuppusamy and Deva threatened them in a private hall and demanded them to take back the complaint.
