Coimbatore: 21 youngsters provided with Rs.1 lakh each to begin new businesses on behalf of the Rural Poverty Alleviation Society.

The meeting to review the COVID-19 prevention measures being taken in the district was held at the Coimbatore District Collectorate led by the Minister for Municipal Administration S.P. Velumani.

District Collectorate K. Rajamani, City Police Commissioner Sumith Saran, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Shravan Kumar and other officials took part in the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting the Minister advised, "Good care must be provided to the patients at the COVID-19 care centers. All people on two wheelers must wear face masks and children and elderly must not step out unnecessarily from their homes. Legal action will be taken against those who spread news about the spread of COVID-19."

He further said, "Under the Tamilnadu Rural Innovation Project scheme 19 farmer producers were provided with Rs.1.5 lakhs and a total of 1,595 beneficiaries were provided with COVID-19 relief amounting to Rs.28, 50,000. Youngsters who have returned back to their native places from other places have been provided with Rs.1 lakh each to begin new businesses, through the Rural Poverty alleviation societies. 21 beneficiaries were provided with Rs.21 lakhs fund. A total of Rs.49,50,000 has been provided to 1,616 beneficiaries."
