A 52-year-old man was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for sexually abusing, a toddler here, on Monday.
According to police reports, due to disagreements with her husband, a young woman parted ways and had been staying with her 2.5 year old girl child near Saravanampatti, here.As the woman was working, she had appointed a baby sitter to take care of her child, on her absence.
On August 13, as the baby sitter went on leave, the mother reportedly had left the child at the baby sitter's home, as she had her family to take care of the child. The same evening, when the mother came to pick the child, she noticed mild scratches at multiple places of the child's body. Yet, she left the place and later found the child to have bruises around her left eye and other parts of the body.
While the mother stood worried and clueless, the child's health deteriorated and hence she was rushed to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). After thorough examination, the doctors informed the mother that the toddler has been subjected to sexual assualt and admitted the child for treatment.
Shell-shocked by the cruelty meted on her child, the mother lodged an official complaint at Saravanampatti police station. The police who commenced their investigation at the home where the child was left during the mother's absence, found that the maid's husband and her daughter were present from morning at the home.
Upon investigation, it was found that a friend of the maid's husband, Sakthivel (52) had visited the house and sexually abused the child, when none were present. Police then inquired Sakthivel and found him guilty. He was then booked under POCSO act for reportedly sexually abusing, a toddler.
After producing him before a Magistrate, the culprit was lodged in Coimbatore Central prison.
