Coimbatore: Following a meeting at the Coimbatore District Collectorate, the State Secretary of the Hindu Makkal Katchi said that they would go against the ban and celebrate Vinayagar Chathurthi in a grand manner on August 22.
A meeting regarding the Vinyagar Chathurthi celebrations was held at the Coimbatore District Collectorate and 12 Hindu outfits including the Hindu Munnani, Hindu Makkal Katchi, VHP, Vivekanandar Peravai, Bharat Sena and Sakthi Sena took part in the meeting with the District Collector. The District Revenue officer Ramadurai Murugan and Police Superintendent Arularasu took part in the meeting.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, the Hindu Makkal Katchi State Secretary Senthil said, "A petition has been filed on behalf of the Hindu outfits to the TN government to remove the ban that has been placed for the celebration of Vinayagar Chathurthi. This is a festival that is celebrated by Hindus all over the world. The usual celebrations can be foregone but we have requested permission to hold the visarjan procession at least for one day and the government must consider our request."
He then opined that, "The herbs used in Ganapathi Homam might have the capability to kill Coronavirus. The herbs used for the homam are the same ones that are used in Siddha medicine.."
He then issued an ultimatum, "Whether the permission for the celebration is granted or not, Hindu outfits will jointly install Vinayagar statues in public places all over TN and celebrate the festival in a grand manner."
"A copy of the ban order issued by the TN government was provided to us by the police department at the meeting. Following this, we shared our opinion about this and have requested the TN government to issue relevant guidelines and permit the celebrations. However, if permission is denied for the celebrations then we will go past the ban and celebrate the festival in a grand manner on August 22", he said.
