This year, Independence Day celebration in Coimbatore will be a low key affair - District Collector

Coimbatore: The 74th Independence day will be celebrated in a simple manner, informed the Coimbatore District Collector.

Coimbatore: The 74th Independence day will be celebrated in a simple manner, informed the Coimbatore District Collector.

Each year the entire nation celebrates Independence day in a splendid manner. The Prime Minister hoists the national flag at the Red fort in New Delhi, while the Chief Ministers state hoist the national flag in their respective states. Following this, welfare packages would be announced and provided to the public.

However, this year the celebrations would be simple due to the COVID-19 situation, informed the District Collector K. Rajamani.

The cultural events and the felicitation of freedom fighters that take place each year will not be held this year due to the spread of COVID-19. Similarly, there will be no audience to view the Independence day celebrations.

The District Collector will participate in a police parade. Measures are being taken to honour the doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers who have been working in the frontline selflessly in the fight against COVID-19.
