Plea to ban food packets without expiry dates

Stating that most of the food packets provided in small bakery units and petty shops did not contain date of packing and expiry, a lawyer has submitted a petition to the District Collector Archana Patnaik

demanding an inspection of these shops.

In the petition V. Pushpanathan, had stated that he had come across such food packets without any packing or expiry date.

“This is the same problem with many shops as most of the food packets do not have any dates,” he said.

He further added that the price of food packets were also not mentioned in the packets.

“These food items are largely old and cause various health hazards to people who consume them. Hence, the Administration should conduct a survey in all shops and ban the sale of such food packets,” he added.
