Herd of Elephants storm into Village and wreaks havoc

The number of man-animal conflicts in Coimbatore district doesn’t seem to wane.

In yet another case of man-animal conflict, 14 elephants and a calf strayed into Poochiyur area of Narasimhanaickenpalayam in the wee hours of Wednesday, wreaking havoc and damaging houses.

The stray herd reportedly stormed the windows and doors of the houses owned by Krishnappan and Murugesan and also pulled the rice sacks and gobbled it. The pachyderms also destroyed the coconut trees, mango trees and also the water pipe connections owned by Somasundaram and Selvasundaram. The frightened residents scrambled for their safety. Tension prevailed as the elephants continued their rampage in that area.

Later the forest officials from Narasimhanaickenpalayam reached the spot and bursted crackers and chased the herd back to the forest. For many hours, the residents were in a state of panic.
