'Greenspiration' inspires youth to take up wildlife conservation

Environmentalists and wildlife enthusiasts from across the country got together to inspire youngsters to take up projects to save the environment.

More than 160 enthusiasts took part in the event themed as 'Greenspiration', at Kumaraguru College of Technology organized by Wild Wing Trust (WWT), a city-based NGO.

Sudharshan of WWT said that this was the fifth year of the event and it was organized to inspire youngsters. "This workshop will help the younger lot, who are passionate about wildlife and environment. Renowned naturalists and environmentalists from states such as Gujarat and Karnataka participated in the event," he said.

Sangeetha Kadur, a wildlife illustrator said that outreach and nature education can help spread awareness, especially to children. Such workshops are an apt medium to spread the message about wildlife art. She shared her experience and said that since her parents were also wildlife enthusiasts, it was easier for her to get into the field.

Mohammed Saleem of Environmental Conservation said that he was influenced by Soham Mukherjee, a crocodile trainer and Prema Rangachary of Vidya Vanam who stressed on the importance of involving locals in environmental projects. "They explained how they worked with the forest department and other government departments for their projects. They also shared experiences of the challenges they faced, which gave us an insight on how to approach such challenges," he said.
