Raising funds to fight polio

The Rotary Club of Coimbatore had hosted the World’s Greatest Meal event at the Cosmopolitan Club on Thursday. Ms. Susanne Rea of the Rotary Club of Cairns Sunrise was the chief guest.

The Rotary Club of Coimbatore donated Rs.12.56 lakh to the ongoing fight against polio and the cheque was presented by Rtn. Sundaravadivelu, who is also the project chairman of Rotary Club of Coimbatore with Rtn Padmakumar, president of the Club, to WGM chairperson Rtn Susanne Rea from Australia.

Every US$1 raised will be matched by US$2 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Every dollar matched will immunise seven children. So far, a total of 2,298 events have been organised in more than 70 countries all over the world and 1,28,200 people have participated in the dinner.

All funds collected go straight to The Rotary Foundation/End Polio Now account with full credit going to the Club and the Rotary District 3201.
