Tribal Man Killed in Suspected Wild Elephant Attack Near Karamadai

A 60-year-old tribal man was found dead near Kodungarai Pallam along the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border near Karamadai, with forest officials suspecting a wild elephant attack. His body was sent to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Coimbatore: A 60-year-old tribal man was found dead near the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border close to Karamadai, with forest officials suspecting that he was killed in an attack by a wild elephant.

The deceased was identified as Raman, a resident of Kalanipudur near Karamadai. He is survived by his wife, Kurumbi, 55, three daughters and a son. Raman was working as a daily wage labourer.

According to forest officials, Raman had gone to visit his sister at Seenguzhi on the night of September 12. However, he did not return home thereafter.

Concerned family members searched for him throughout the night but were unable to trace him. On the following morning, his relatives found his body near Kodungarai Pallam, close to the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, and alerted Periyanaickenpalayam Forest Range officer.

A team of Forest Department personnel led by Forest range officer (in charge) Joseph Stalin, rushed to the spot and found injuries on Raman’s body that were suspected to have been caused by a wild elephant attack.

The Karamadai police also reached the scene and recovered the body and sent it to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The Karamadai police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding Raman’s death.
