Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Theja IAS conducted a detailed inspection of urban homeless shelters in Central and South zones, reviewing basic amenities, food supply, and maintenance facilities. He directed officials to construct compound walls and undertake immediate building repairs at both facilities.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Theja IAS conducted a comprehensive inspection of urban homeless shelters located in the Central and South zones today (02.09.2026), personally reviewing the facilities and amenities provided to the residents.
The Commissioner visited the urban homeless shelter operating in Corporation premises at Kempatti Colony area under Central Zone Ward No. 80, which has a total capacity of 50 beds—25 beds on the first floor and 25 beds on the second floor. Currently, 49 persons are sheltered at this facility. Similarly, the urban homeless shelter on NTP Street, Sundakkamuthur, under South Zone Ward No. 89, has a capacity of 50 beds and currently houses 36 persons.
During the inspection, the Corporation Commissioner personally examined and gathered details about the food provided to the residents, basic amenities, and sanitation conditions at these shelters. He directed the concerned officials to prepare appropriate project estimates for constructing a compound wall for the shelter and to immediately undertake building maintenance work.
Additionally, the Commissioner personally visited and inspected the site for a bridge to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 98 lakh in the Sundakkamuthur area.
The inspection was attended by City Health Officer Dr Subash Gandhi, Assistant Commissioners Ganesan (Central) and Maheshkanagaraj (South), Executive Engineer Jegan, Assistant Executive Engineer Saravanakumar (Public Works), Zonal Health Officer Gunasekaran, Assistant Engineers Navaneethakrishnan and Anitha, among others.
