The second season of India's Equestrian Champions League commenced at the Equine Dreams ground in Molapalayam near Vellanai Patti, Coimbatore, on August 28 and will continue until August 30. Six teams from six states are competing across three categories, with ₹30 lakh in prize money on offer.
Coimbatore: The second season of the Equestrian Champions League, one of India's premier national-level show-jumping competitions, kicked off in Coimbatore on Friday and will continue until August 30, bringing together top equestrian talent from across the country.
Organised by the Equine Sports India Federation, affiliated with the Equestrian Federation of India, in collaboration with the Indigenous Horse Society Tamil Nadu, the three-day sporting extravaganza is being held at the Equine Dreams ground in Molapalayam near Vellanai Patti in Coimbatore.
The opening ceremony showcased spectacular skill demonstrations and equestrian stunts by riders, along with an introduction to the competition format. Horses and riders cleared a series of challenging obstacles in the arena, setting the stage for an exciting weekend of competition.
As part of the launch of the second season, the participating teams and their flags were formally introduced at the event. The inauguration was attended by Sundar Ramakrishnan, Equestrian League Advisor and Managing Trustee of SNR Trust; A.S. Sakti Balaji, President of the Equine Sports India Federation; Dr. R. Mahendran, Founder of Expovan; Vishnu Prabhu, Ambassador for Trade, India ASEAN Trade Council; and the owners of the participating teams.
The competition features three categories based on obstacle height — 100 cm, 110 cm and 120 cm. The riders will be evaluated by Equestrian Federation of India-accredited judges based in New Delhi, while the jumping course has been meticulously designed by a course designer from Sharjah, ensuring international standards.
Six teams representing six states are competing in the league: Chennai Bulls (Tamil Nadu), Pegasus Sports (Kerala), Golconda Chargers (Telangana), Bengaluru Knights (Karnataka), Elite Equestrians (West Bengal) and Quantum Reigns (Goa). Each team comprises six riders and three substitutes, bringing the total participation to 54 riders.
Speaking to reporters, Sakti Balaji emphasized that the competition aims to provide a professional platform for leading equestrian riders to showcase their skills in show jumping while contributing to the growth of equestrian sports in India.
He highlighted that riders from six states are participating this year and that the competition has been expanded to three categories, compared to two categories in the previous edition. A total prize money of ₹30 lakh will be awarded to the winners across various categories.
The final competition, scheduled for Sunday, will be attended by Ministers K.A. Sengottaiyan, S. Kamali and MLAs N.M. Sukumar, Sathyabama and Tamilselvi. The prize distribution ceremony will be graced by popular actors Arya and Shaam, adding star power to the sporting event.
