Coimbatore AIADMK Stages Protest Against TN Govt Over Farmers’ Loan Waiver, Mekedatu Issue

The AIADMK staged a protest near the Coimbatore South Taluk Office, on Friday, urging the Tamil Nadu government to waive farmers’ crop loans in full and accusing it of failing to take adequate action on the Mekedatu dam issue and secure the State’s rightful share of Cauvery water.

Coimbatore: The AIADMK staged a demonstration in Coimbatore, raising a series of demands concerning farmers’ interests and Tamil Nadu’s Cauvery water rights.

The protest, organised by the Coimbatore district unit of the party, was held near the South Taluk Office. Party functionaries and cadres participated in the demonstration and raised slogans against the Tamil Nadu government.

The protesters demanded that crop loans availed by farmers from banks be waived in full. They also accused the State government of adopting a lackadaisical approach to the Mekedatu dam issue and failing to take adequate steps to protect Tamil Nadu’s interests.

The party further alleged that the government had not taken sufficient measures to secure Tamil Nadu’s rightful share of water from the Cauvery and urged it to take appropriate action on the issue.

Former Minister S. Velusamy, former AIADMK Legislature Party Deputy Leader Pollachi V. Jayaraman, and former MLAs Amman K. Arjunan, Jayaram, Arun Kumar and Kandasamy were among those who participated in the protest.

The protesters reiterated their demands for a complete waiver of farmers’ crop loans, protection of Tamil Nadu’s rights in the Mekedatu issue and effective measures to ensure the State receives its due share of Cauvery water.
