A cyclist was killed on the spot after a tipper lorry allegedly collided with him and ran over him at the Ramanathapuram Signal in Coimbatore on Monday. Police have launched an investigation into the accident.

A cyclist was killed in a fatal road accident after being struck by a tipper lorry at the busy Ramanathapuram Signal in Coimbatore on Tuesday evening.
The accident occurred when the cyclist was travelling through the signal area amid heavy traffic. The tipper lorry, which was proceeding along the same stretch, allegedly collided with the cyclist, causing him to fall onto the road. The lorry subsequently ran over him, leaving him with severe head injuries. He died at the spot.
The accident caused panic among motorists and pedestrians in the area. On receiving information, police personnel rushed to the spot and secured the area. The victim’s body was recovered and sent to a government hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police have initiated an investigation to establish the exact circumstances leading to the accident. The tipper lorry driver is being questioned, while CCTV footage from the Ramanathapuram Signal and surrounding areas is also being examined as part of the probe.
The accident briefly affected traffic movement in the area, with police taking steps to regulate vehicles while the investigation was underway.
