Siruvani Water Level Climbs to 26.80 Feet Following Rainfall

The water level at Siruvani Dam has risen from 25.22 feet on August 2 to 26.80 feet on August 10, marking an increase of 1.58 feet. Although the dam received only 2 mm of rainfall on August 10, inflows from rainfall received in the Western Ghats in the preceding days have gradually contributed to the rise in water storage.

Coimbatore: The water level at Siruvani Dam, a key source of drinking water for Coimbatore, has risen by 1.58 feet over the past eight days, increasing from 25.22 feet on August 2 to 26.80 feet as of August 10.

According to the Siruvani Combined Water Supply Scheme data, the dam’s water level stood at 871.57 metres against its maximum level of 878.50 metres on August 10. The recorded depth of water was 26.80 feet against the full level of 49.53 feet.

The rise follows significant rainfall recorded at the dam on August 2, when Siruvani received 129 mm of rainfall. The Adivaram area recorded 47 mm of rainfall on the same day.

As of August 10, the dam received 2 mm of rainfall, while Adivaram recorded no rainfall.

The useful storage in the reservoir currently stands at 245.13 million cubic feet (MCF).

The current water supply through the 1,000 mm, 500 mm and 450 mm main pipelines stands at 70.47 million litres per day (MLD), against the supply capacity of 101.40 MLD.

According to the authorities, the water depth is being maintained within the restricted level of 44.61 feet as per the instructions of the DSO.

According to the rainfall data for the 24-hour period ending at 7.30 a.m. on August 10, Coimbatore district recorded a total rainfall of 105 mm, with an average rainfall of 4.57 mm. Most parts of the district recorded little or no rainfall during the period, while the Valparai region received significantly higher rainfall. Chnnakalar recorded the highest rainfall at 30 mm, followed by Cincona and Sholayar with 21 mm each, Valparai PAP with 17 mm and Valparai Taluk with 15 mm.

Together, these five stations in the Valparai region accounted for 104 mm of the district’s total 105 mm rainfall.
