Habitual Ganja Trafficker from Odisha Detained Under Goondas Act in Coimbatore

Sudhakar Mahakud (32), a native of Odisha, has been preventively detained under the Goondas Act as a Drug Offender after being linked to repeated ganja trafficking offences in Coimbatore district, following the recommendation of the district police.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore: A 32-year-old man from Odisha has been detained under the Goondas Act after allegedly being involved in repeated ganja trafficking offences in Coimbatore district.

The accused, Sudhakar Mahakud (32), was arrested by the Negamam Police in a case involving the alleged possession of ganja for the purpose of illegal sale. He was subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

Following a review of his criminal activities, Superintendent of Police Pavan K. Reddy recommended that preventive detention proceedings be initiated against him under the Goondas Act, citing his continued involvement in activities detrimental to public order.

Acting on the recommendation, District Collector Pavan Kumar G. Giriyappanavar ordered Sudhakar Mahakud’s preventive detention under the Goondas Act, classifying him as a Drug Offender.

The Coimbatore District Police said they would continue to invoke stringent legal provisions, including preventive detention under the Goondas Act, against habitual offenders whose activities threaten public order and public health.

Urging public participation in the fight against narcotics and crime, the police appealed to residents to share information on drug trafficking and other criminal activities through Nizhal, the Coimbatore District Police’s QR code-based public safety platform. The identity of informants, police said, will be kept strictly confidential.
