Coimbatore: Water levels in major dams across Coimbatore district have witnessed significant increase due to continuous southwest monsoon rainfall, according to Water Resources Department officials. Detailed updates on the current status of dams in Anaimalai, Pollachi, and Valparai regions have been released.
The Aliyar dam near Anaimalai has a full reservoir capacity of 120 feet. Due to rainfall in the catchment areas, the water level was recorded at 56.4 feet as of July 20. The dam is currently receiving an inflow of 288 cusecs, while 350 cusecs of water is being discharged from the reservoir.
The Parambikulam dam near Pollachi has a storage capacity of 72 feet. With the southwest monsoon continuing to bring consistent rainfall, the dam has been receiving substantial inflow from its catchment areas. As of July 20, the water level has risen to 20.38 feet. The dam recorded an impressive inflow of 1,236 cusecs, marking the highest water inflow among all dams in Coimbatore district. Currently, 910 cusecs of water is being released from the dam.
The Sholayar dam in the Valparai region has a total capacity of 160 feet. Rainfall in its catchment areas has pushed the water level to 86.76 feet as of July 20. The dam is receiving an inflow of 416 cusecs, while a controlled discharge of 1,357 cusecs is being maintained.
Water Resources Department officials stated, "The southwest monsoon has been performing well, resulting in good inflow to all three dams. Parambikulam dam has recorded particularly noteworthy inflow levels. Water levels in all dams are being maintained within control limits, and discharge is being carried out safely. Water management is being implemented in a manner that benefits farmers."
Officials confirmed that all three dams are currently in a safe condition and are under continuous monitoring.
