Coimbatore ESIC Contract Employees Raise Regularisation, Wage Issues with Collector

Contract employees working at Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) dispensaries in Coimbatore submitted a petition to the District Collector seeking regularisation of services, higher wages, timely salary disbursal and settlement of pending dues.

Coimbatore: Contract employees working at Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) dispensaries in Coimbatore on Monday submitted a petition to the District Collector seeking regularisation of their services, higher wages and timely payment of salaries.

More than 50 contract workers are employed at ESIC dispensaries across the district through a private agency under the Regional Administrative Medical Officer. In their petition, the employees urged the authorities to address irregularities in salary disbursal and bring them under the government's consolidated pay system with direct salary payments.

The workers also sought issuance of monthly salary slips, immediate clearance of all pending wages and coordinated action by the ESIC administration and the contracting agency to resolve their grievances on a permanent basis.

Speaking to reporters, the employees said they have been working on a contractual basis for the past five years but continue to face delays in receiving their salaries. They alleged that wages are not credited on time, causing financial hardship.

The workers further claimed that they are being assigned duties beyond their designated responsibilities despite being employed on contract. They urged the authorities to enhance their salaries and regularise their services, stating that their current remuneration is inadequate to meet their living expenses.
