A drunken altercation among three migrant workers allegedly culminated in the assault and death of P.C. Yadav (26), a Bihar native employed as a labourer at a fertiliser factory near Mettupalayam. The Sirumugai Police arrested two co-workers, booked them on murder charges, and remanded them to judicial custody.
Coimbatore: A 26-year-old migrant worker from Bihar died following an alleged assault during a drunken altercation with two fellow workers at a private fertiliser factory near Mettupalayam. Police have arrested the two accused in connection with the incident.
The deceased was identified as P.C. Yadav (26), a native of Bihar, who was employed as a daily wage labourer at a private fertiliser factory in Jadayampalayam near Mettupalayam. The accused, Ajith (42) and Ujith (40), both natives of Bihar, were also employed at the same factory and were staying on the premises.
According to police, the three men were consuming alcohol on the night of July 16 when an argument allegedly broke out between them. The quarrel reportedly escalated into a physical assault, during which Ajith and Ujith allegedly attacked Yadav, causing injuries.
Yadav is said to have sought treatment at a private hospital before returning to the factory. However, he reportedly developed health complications and died on Saturday.
On receiving information, Sirumugai Police Inspector Selvam and his team rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
During the investigation, police allegedly found that the injuries sustained by Yadav during the altercation led to his death. Based on the findings, Ajith and Ujith were arrested on Sunday and later remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is under way.
