Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy Dams Record Steady Water Inflow in Tiruppur District

The Amaravathi Dam in Tiruppur district has reached a water level of 50.56 feet with an inflow of 219 cusecs, while the Thirumoorthy Dam near Udumalaipettai stands at 27.75 feet with an inflow of 653 cusecs as of July 15, according to Water Resources Department officials.


Tiruppur: The Amaravathi Dam and Thirumoorthy Dam in Tiruppur district are witnessing steady water inflow, bringing relief to the region amid the ongoing monsoon season.

The Amaravathi Dam, with a total capacity of 90 feet, has recorded a water level of 50.56 feet as of July 15. The dam continues to receive consistent inflow from its catchment areas, with the current inflow standing at 219 cubic feet per second (cusecs). Water Resources Department officials confirmed that water is being released from the dam as per requirements.

The Thirumoorthy Dam, located near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district, has a storage capacity of 60 feet. As of July 15, the water level in the dam stands at 27.75 feet. The dam is experiencing a robust inflow of 653 cusecs from its catchment areas. Officials from the Water Resources Department stated that 497 cusecs of water is being released from the dam.

The steady inflow to both dams is attributed to continuous water flow from the catchment regions. The Water Resources Department is monitoring the situation closely and managing the water release accordingly to ensure optimal storage and downstream requirements.

Both dams play a crucial role in meeting the irrigation and drinking water needs of Tiruppur district and surrounding areas. The improved water levels have brought optimism among farmers and residents who depend on these water sources for their livelihoods and daily needs.
