Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Inspects Sports Facilities Ahead of Junior Hockey Championship

Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Theja IAS inspected R.S.Puram Hockey Ground, Nehru Indoor Stadium, and Krishnampathy Lake. He reviewed maintenance work for the 16th Hockey India Junior Men's National Championship and examined newly constructed indoor sports arenas across the city.


Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Theja IAS conducted a comprehensive inspection of sports facilities and infrastructure development projects across the city on July 11, 2026. The inspection primarily focused on the preparatory work being undertaken for the upcoming 16th Hockey India Junior Men's National Championship.

The Commissioner personally visited the R.S.Puram Corporation Hockey Ground located in Ward No. 72 of the West Zone, where maintenance work is underway ahead of the championship organized by the Tamil Nadu Hockey Unit. He reviewed the progress of various improvement activities and ensured that facilities meet the required standards for the national-level tournament.



Following the hockey ground inspection, Commissioner Katta Ravi Theja visited Maharani Avenue 5th Street in Ward No. 39, where he interacted with the Residents Welfare Association regarding basic amenities and civic issues in the area. Subsequently, he proceeded to Krishnampathy Lake in Ward No. 75, where he inspected the ongoing water hyacinth removal work. The Commissioner instructed officials to expedite the cleaning operations to restore the lake's ecological balance.



The inspection tour also covered the newly constructed indoor sports facilities in the Central Zone. Near the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Ward No. 83, the Commissioner examined three state-of-the-art indoor arenas. These include a badminton arena constructed at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore, a kabaddi arena also worth Rs 1.50 crore, and a volleyball indoor arena built with an investment of Rs 2 crore. These facilities are expected to significantly enhance sports infrastructure in the city and provide athletes with world-class training venues.

The inspection was attended by Assistant Commissioner Narmatha, Executive Engineer Yogasithra (Public Works), Assistant Executive Engineers Savitha and Saravanakumar (Public Works), Zonal Health Officer Radhakrishnan, Assistant Engineers Manjuladevi, Babu (Public Works), and Sathish, along with several other Corporation officials. The comprehensive review reflects the Corporation's commitment to developing sports infrastructure and maintaining civic amenities across Coimbatore.
