Three Arrested for Assaulting College Student, Trespassing into House and Robbing Cash in Coimbatore

Three persons have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a college student, trespassing into her residence and robbing ₹1.5 lakh in cash and gold jewellery in Coimbatore district. Police have launched a search for the remaining accused.


Coimbatore: Three persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of a college student, criminal trespass into her residence, vandalism and theft of cash and gold jewellery in Coimbatore district. Police said efforts are under way to trace the remaining accused.

According to the police, the student, who resides within the limits of the Madukkarai Police Station and studies at a private college, was allegedly intercepted by two local residents, Surya and Narendran, while she was on her way to college a few days ago. The duo allegedly assaulted her, snatched her college identity card, abused her in obscene language and threatened her.

After the student informed her father about the incident, he reportedly confronted the accused and told them that he intended to lodge a complaint with the All Women Police Station.

Police said that, following this, Surya, Maniarasu, Narendran and a few others allegedly trespassed into the student's house, damaged household articles and took away ₹1.5 lakh in cash and a pair of gold earrings weighing about two grams. They also allegedly threatened to kill the student and her family members.

Based on the complaint, the Madukkarai Police registered a case on the instructions of Coimbatore Superintendent of Police Pavan Kumar and launched an investigation.

During the investigation, police arrested Maniarasu (46), Chandru (25) and Sabari (25), all residents of Vazhukkuparai. They were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.

Police said special teams have been formed to trace the remaining accused and that further investigation into the case is under way.
