Bengaluru–Thiruvananthapuram Weekly Special Trains Extended Till August End; Coimbatore Among Key Stops

Southern Railway has extended the operation of the Bengaluru–Thiruvananthapuram North Weekly Special Trains till the end of August 2026 to meet growing passenger demand. The services will continue to halt at Podanur, Tiruppur, Erode and Salem.


Coimbatore: Southern Railway has announced the extension of the SMVT Bengaluru–Thiruvananthapuram North weekly special train services till the end of August 2026, providing continued connectivity for passengers travelling through Coimbatore and other key stations in western Tamil Nadu.

According to an official release, Train No. 06555 SMVT Bengaluru–Thiruvananthapuram North Weekly Special will depart from SMVT Bengaluru at 10 p.m. every Friday from July 10 to August 28 (eight services) and reach Thiruvananthapuram North at 2 p.m. the following day.

In the return direction, Train No. 06556 Thiruvananthapuram North–SMVT Bengaluru Weekly Special will leave Thiruvananthapuram North at 2.15 p.m. every Sunday from July 12 to August 30 (eight services) and arrive at SMVT Bengaluru at 8.15 a.m. the next day.

The weekly special trains will continue to halt at Podanur, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Krishnarajapuram, Bangarapet, Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Changanassery, Tiruvalla, Chengannur, Mavelikara, Kayamkulam, Kollam and Varkala.

The services will comprise AC Two-Tier, AC Three-Tier, Sleeper Class, General Second Class and Luggage-cum-Brake Van coaches, including accommodation for differently abled passengers. Southern Railway said the extension has been introduced to cater to the increasing number of passengers travelling on the route.
