Sri Ramakrishna Women's College Wins National Hackathon for AI-Based Waste Management Project

Students from Sri Ramakrishna Women's College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore won first prize and Rs 1 lakh funding at a national Hackathon for their artificial intelligence-based waste segregation project. The team triumphed over six finalists at Coonoor in the final round.


Coimbatore: Sri Ramakrishna Women's College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore has secured first place at a national level Hackathon competition and received Rs 1 lakh funding for project implementation. The students won this prestigious recognition for developing an innovative artificial intelligence-based waste segregation system.

The first round of the competition was held in February, attracting student participants from various colleges across the nation. Six teams were shortlisted for the final round from among numerous entries. Notably, two teams from Sri Ramakrishna Women's College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore made it to the finals, demonstrating the institution's excellence in innovation and technology.

The final round of the Hackathon was recently held in Coonoor, where the Sri Ramakrishna Women's College students' AI-powered waste segregation project emerged victorious at the national level. Along with the first prize, the team received Rs 1 lakh funding to implement their project. This innovative solution integrates environmental conservation with cutting-edge technological innovation, addressing one of the most pressing challenges in urban waste management.

The winning students were congratulated and honored by Dr. Sundar Ramakrishnan, Managing Trustee of SNR Sons Charitable Trust, and Dr. K. Chithra, Principal of the college. They noted that this achievement serves as an excellent example of innovative thinking and technological advancement in education. The project demonstrates how young minds can contribute meaningfully to solving real-world environmental problems through the application of artificial intelligence and sustainable solutions.
