FMD Vaccination Camp Begins Tomorrow in Coimbatore - District Collector Announcement

Foot and Mouth Disease vaccination camp will be conducted in Coimbatore district from July 1 to August 10. All cows, bulls, buffaloes and calves above 4 months in every village will be vaccinated, announced District Collector Pawan Kumar Giriyappanar.


Coimbatore: The 9th round of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination program under the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) for the year 2026 will be conducted across all villages and hamlets in 38 districts of Tamil Nadu from July 1, 2026 to August 10, 2026. Under this program, all cattle and buffalo in every village across Tamil Nadu will be vaccinated, informed District Collector Pawan Kumar Giriyappanar.

To ensure the smooth conduct of this vaccination drive, vaccines have been kept ready in Walk-in Coolers. On the designated day for each village, specially formed vaccination teams will transport the vaccines through Cold Chain method and vaccinate all existing cattle and buffalo populations.

Foot and Mouth Disease particularly affects hybrid cattle severely, causing economic and production losses to livestock farmers. Though mortality rates from this disease are low, economic losses are substantial due to reduced milk production in dairy cattle, decreased work efficiency of bulls, breeding complications in dairy cows, and mortality among young calves.

Moreover, this disease typically spreads rapidly through air during cold and winter seasons, particularly through cattle purchased from disease-affected areas, unsanitary livestock rearing practices, and lack of vaccination. The disease spreads to other cattle through the urine, milk, saliva, and dung of infected animals.

Therefore, District Collector Pawan Kumar Giriyappanar has requested farmers and livestock owners in Coimbatore district to ensure their cows, bulls, buffaloes, and calves above 4 months of age receive the Foot and Mouth Disease vaccination without fail on the designated day and location for each village starting from July 1, 2026.
