Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Cyber Crime Police have arrested a 36-year-old man from Pudukkottai for allegedly cheating a widowed woman from Coimbatore of nearly ₹2 crore after befriending her through the Bumble dating application and promising to marry her.

The accused, identified as Vigneshwaran (36), is a resident of Pudukkottai and runs a football academy in the district.

According to the police, Vigneshwaran became acquainted with the complainant, a widowed woman from Coimbatore, through the Bumble dating platform. Their acquaintance gradually developed into a close relationship, during which he allegedly assured her that he would marry her.

Believing his assurances, the woman allegedly transferred nearly ₹2 crore to the accused on different occasions. Police said Vigneshwaran also obtained a car and an iPad from the complainant after gaining her trust.
