Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy Dams in Tiruppur District See Water Level Rise

Water levels at Amaravathi Dam reached 37.6 feet and Thirumoorthy Dam reached 38.44 feet on June 27 in Tiruppur district. Water Resources Department officials reported continuous inflow from catchment areas, bringing relief to farmers across the region.

Coimbatore: The water levels at two major dams in Tiruppur district, Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy, have risen significantly due to continuous rainfall in their catchment areas. Water Resources Department officials reported on June 27 that both dams are receiving steady inflows, marking a positive development for the region's agricultural community.

Amaravathi Dam, located in Tiruppur district with a total capacity of 90 feet, recorded a water level of 37.6 feet as of June 27. The dam is currently receiving an inflow of 145 cubic feet per second from its catchment areas. Water Resources Department officials confirmed that no water is being released from the dam at present, as the storage level remains below the discharge threshold.

Similarly, Thirumoorthy Dam, situated near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district with a maximum capacity of 60 feet, recorded a water level of 38.44 feet on June 27. The dam is experiencing a substantial inflow of 581 cubic feet per second from its catchment areas. Unlike Amaravathi Dam, Thirumoorthy Dam is currently releasing water at a rate of 321 cubic feet per second, according to Water Resources Department officials.

The steady increase in water levels at both dams has brought welcome news to farmers in the region who depend on these reservoirs for irrigation. With continued rainfall in the catchment areas, water levels are expected to rise further in the coming days, ensuring adequate water supply for agricultural lands across Tiruppur district. Farmers have expressed optimism about improved irrigation facilities for the upcoming cultivation season.

Water Resources Department officials are closely monitoring the inflow and storage levels at both dams. The continued rainfall in the catchment areas is expected to further boost the water levels, strengthening the district's water security and supporting agricultural activities throughout the region.
